Acquisitions Formatting Intern

Acquisitions/Formatting Intern - Nor'easter Publishing

For those interested in careers in publishing, small presses, acquisitions, E-books and audiobooks. 

  • Working with the Acquisitions Editor, you will identify authors and titles that match our editorial profile, help to formulate editorial strategy using market and sales data, review query letters and manuscripts, and help create rights-deal memos and choose contract deal points, all while getting access to an audiobook-forward publishing entity.
  • You will also assist in e-book formatting and book copy-editing.
  • You will communicate across company departments including marketing and design, PR, branding and social media, web design, and audiobook production.
  • This company focuses on New England-based authors and storytelling. We're looking for candidates from the area who are interested in working with New England content.
  • A knowledge of regional sports history is encouraged, but not required

Ideal candidate is a motivated self-starter, excited to explore discover underrepresented and unpublished authors, and read submissions.

Applicant has some experience in digital publishing file formats, Kindle Create, Amazon's web platform, as well as working with file conversions between docx, pdf, and other epub formats. This role requires proofreading and file QA, macro-edit and copy-edit processes.

10 hrs/week. Mostly unpaid/volunteer for experience. At completion of internship, candidate will receive a $150 stipend, as well as potential additional compensation.

(Frequently after the semester, interns become waged staffers.)

Our studio/office is in Central Square, Cambridge, MA.

Only required meeting is a 1-hour all-staff Zoom meeting on Wednesdays or Thursdays at 8pm ET.
