Deputy Sheriff
JOB SUMMARY
This position performs law enforcement and crime prevention activities relating to federal, state, and local traffic and criminal laws and ordinances. Arrests and books suspects; transports prisoners; investigates crimes and criminal complaints; provides field service of civil process; and prepares necessary reports. Performs other work as required.

Testing for this position is required. Both the POST and ORPAT tests will be offered on ***Thursday, July 16, 2026, at the Benton County Fairgrounds starting at 8:00am. ***Previous POST and ORPAT test results will be accepted if they've been completed within 1 year. BENEFITS

Get paid for your knowledge and expertise:
- 2.5 - 5% English-Spanish Bilingual Pay (to be verified at hire)
- 5% Field Training Deputy Pay when actively being a trainer
- K-9 Deputies receive extra 4 hours base pay every week
- 7.5% Detective Pay
- 2% ORPAT Pay annually-for 4:59 or less
- 4% DPSST Intermediate Certification
- 4% DPSST Advanced Certification

Annual salary range of:
- $70,452.32- $102,117.29 Annually

This position guarantees two salary raises within your first year as long as your performance is in good standing!

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Valid State issued Driver's License with good driving record.
- 21 years of age at time of hire.
- High School Graduate or GED equivalent (bachelor's degree preferred).
- US Citizen.
- Complete the ORPAT during hiring process and during Academy.
- Successfully pass a background investigation, psychological examination, and medical evaluation before being hired.
- DPSST Basic Law Enforcement Certification - within 18 months of employment.
- LEDS Certification required within 6 months of hiring.
- First Aid and CPR Certifications within 60 days of hiring.
All qualified candidates must complete the POST written test with a 70% or higher overall score and the ORPAT (Oregon Physical Abilities Test). You may submit previously earned test results (within 1 year for both the ORPAT and the written test).
No experience necessary; we will train. Preference will go towards lateral applicants who are currently Law Enforcement Certified and in good standing with their current/most recent agency. The Sheriff's Office
