ABOUT THE ROLE

The Block Party has 15,000 attendees because the community shows up for it. But community doesn't show up by accident — it shows up because someone made sure they knew about it, reminded them it was free, and put a poster somewhere they'd actually see it.

This intern is that someone. You'll lead our grassroots street-level marketing push in the weeks leading up to the event — distributing materials, connecting with local businesses and neighborhood associations, and being a friendly, energetic face for the event out in the community. You'll work closely alongside the ED, who has been building this event for seven years and knows every corner of Springfield worth hitting.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • Distribute yard signs, posters, and flyers across Springfield neighborhoods and downtown businesses
  • Build and maintain a distribution map tracking where materials have been placed
  • Conduct in-person outreach to local businesses, community organizations, and neighborhood associations
  • Table at community touchpoints (farmers markets, libraries, community centers) to spread the word
  • Coordinate with the Creative & Print Production intern on materials quantities and timing
  • Report back weekly on community response, questions, and anything notable from the field

WHAT YOU'LL GAIN

  • Real-world community organizing and grassroots outreach experience
  • Familiarity with Springfield's civic ecosystem — businesses, neighborhoods, organizations
  • Experience representing an organization publicly as a brand ambassador
  • A network of community connections in the Lane County area

YOU'RE A GOOD FIT IF YOU...

  • Are outgoing, approachable, and genuinely enjoy talking to people
  • Have reliable transportation in the Springfield/Eugene area
  • Can work independently and self-manage a weekly distribution schedule
  • Care about Springfield or community-building in mid-sized cities
  • Don't mind being on your feet, outside, and occasionally a little sweaty

MUST BE AVAILABLE

  • August through September 11 — this role ramps up significantly in the final two weeks
  • Weekends and some evenings required in August/early September
  • Event day: Friday, September 11, 2026 — full day required
