Maker Studio Attendant
This is an Illuminate Internship that provides a #4,000 grant to the student account of the intern. The Maker Studio Attendant will work with a team of 4 instructors to guide 35-40 teens through a seven week summer physical computing learning experience that culminates in a public showcase on August 7, 2026. This person's primary responsibility will be to maintain our maker studio (workshop) including the machines within while supporting users with training and oversight. As a member of the instructional team, the Maker Studio Attendant is responsible for ensuring
- teens learn how to safely interact with the studio resources.
- ensuring written policies and procedures for tool usage are accurate
- the teens support needs for the culminating event are met
The ideal candidate will enjoy working with teens as they learn both traditional and digital (hobby level) manufacturing processes. Experience with 3D printers and hobby level CNC machines and laser cutters is helpful. Direct experience with Flash Forge, Creality, Dremel and xCarve hardware and/or with FlashPrint, Easel, OnShape, Cura, or other slicing hardware is a definite plus.
Some training is available, so this might be a good fit for someone interested in integrating maker experiences into youth classrooms, workshops, or outreach.
