This role is located within the Technology Transformation Services (TTS) on the Login.gov Fraud Prevention & Investigation Team. Login.gov provides a secure digital identity platform for the public to access federal government services—serving millions of users across multiple agencies.

The Fraud Prevention Team safeguards this platform by detecting, investigating, and disrupting digital identity-based fraud and abuse. In this role you will go beyond basic fraud patterns, embracing ambiguity and exploring complex, evolving threat vectors. You will take full ownership of investigations, not only identifying fraud but analyzing how it entered the system, how it evaded controls, and how Login.gov can adapt to stop it in the future.

As a Fraud Investigator, you will serve as a senior-level tactical and strategic fraud analyst within a cross-functional security, product, and operations team. You’ll investigate sophisticated identity-based fraud involving synthetic identities, social engineering, mule networks, and credential compromise across a wide range of services—from benefits distribution to federal credentialing.

You’ll contribute to the development of countermeasures by partnering with product managers, data analysts, and engineers, offering investigative insight that improves detection systems, workflows, and policies.

This is not a “checklist” fraud role; successful investigators are curious, critical thinkers who understand gray areas and explore root causes—not just symptoms.
