3D Artist Intern
Now Hiring: 3D Artist, National Readiness Lab
Avyon Consulting Group is hiring a 3D Artist to create high-fidelity environment and asset libraries for military training simulations built in Unity. If you can model realistic environments, create production-ready assets, and care about building something that saves lives, we want to hear from you.
About Avyon Consulting Group
Avyon Consulting Group is a defense contractor supporting military systems, weapons platforms, and autonomous intelligence across the Air Force, Army Futures Command, FAA, and FDA. We hold active contracts, a facility security clearance, and SBA 8(a) certification.
The National Readiness Lab is our new product development division, building simulation and training technology for the U.S. military. We are developing combat training simulations that recreate real battlefield environments from open-source footage and trauma response systems that train medics to treat injuries under pressure. The assets you create will be seen by government customers, military leaders, and defense industry decision-makers.
Why This Role Exists
High fidelity is everything. Our competitors have low-quality environments that look like video games. We need environments that look like real combat zones. The 3D assets are the selling point. When a government buyer puts on a headset and sees a trench that looks exactly like footage from a real battlefield, that is what wins the contract.
We need a dedicated 3D artist creating environment assets full-time: trenches, rubble, buildings, vehicles, medical equipment, terrain, weapons, and battlefield debris. You will be the person making this simulation feel real.
What You'll Create
- Realistic trench warfare environments modeled from real combat footage
- Battlefield terrain, structures, rubble, and environmental destruction
- Military equipment, weapons, medical tools, and field gear
- Character models and injury assets for trauma response simulation
- Props and environmental storytelling elements (drone wreckage, fortifications, communication equipment)
- Optimized assets for real-time rendering in Unity on VR headsets
- Texture work, material creation, and UV mapping for production-ready assets
Requirements
- Proficiency in at least two of the following: Autodesk Maya, Blender, ZBrush, Substance Painter
- Experience creating 3D assets for game engines (Unity or Unreal)
- Understanding of real-time asset optimization (polycount management, LOD, texture atlasing)
- Strong portfolio showing environment art, prop modeling, or character work
- Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Game Art, 3D Animation, Digital Media, Game Design, or a related field
- Available to start June 2026 through end of August 2026
Nice to Have
- Experience importing and optimizing assets in Unity
- Photogrammetry or 3D scanning experience
- Experience creating assets from real-world photo reference
- Military, medical, or industrial environment art
- Texture and material creation in Substance Painter or Substance Designer
- Rigging and animation experience
- Familiarity with VR performance constraints and optimization
- US Citizenship preferred
Compensation
$25/hour. This is a paid internship with a direct path to a permanent position. The team that builds the prototype becomes the founding team of the National Readiness Lab. When government funding is secured, these roles convert to full-time salaried positions.
Location
Houston, TX. The National Readiness Lab operates out of the Ion District in downtown Houston. On-site preferred. Remote considered for exceptional candidates.
