Accounting Intern

JOB STATEMENT/PURPOSE

Alaska Native Heritage Center is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Accounting Intern to support our finance team. This internship provides hands-on experience with financial reporting, bookkeeping, reconciliations, and administrative accounting tasks. The ideal candidate is currently pursuing a degree in accounting, finance, or a related field and is eager to learn in a professional environment. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Data Entry into the various systems, including Bill.com,  
    Certify.com, Planning Pod, and QuickBooks accounting system of Vendor Bills, Customer Invoices and Facility Reservation Orders.  
  • Daily Sales data entry for Admissions, Gift Shop, Café, Facility Rentals, and other revenue streams.  
  • Assist with accounts payable and accounts receivable processes  
  • Prepare and maintain financial records and spreadsheets  
  • Support bank reconciliations and account balancing  
  • Help process invoices, receipts, and expense reports  
  • Assist with monthly closing activities  
  • Organize and file accounting documents  
  • Perform data entry with accuracy and attention to detail  
  • Support audits and other financial projects as needed 
  • Qualifications 
  • Currently pursuing a degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field  
  • Basic understanding of accounting principles  
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office  
  • Strong organizational and communication skills  
  • High attention to detail and accuracy  
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of financial information  
  • Prior internship or office experience is a plus but not required 

Essential Skills  

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field  
  • Basic understanding of accounting principles  
  • High attention to detail and accuracy  
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written. 
  • Knowledge of administrative and clerical procedures. 
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of financial information  
  • Prior internship or office experience is a plus but not required 
  • Good problem-solving skills. 

 Preferred Skills  

  • Familiarity with accounting software such as QuickBooks 
  • Ability to use accounting software, proficient in Microsoft Office Suite. 
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively 

 OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  •  Additional duties assigned based on needs of the business. 

 PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORKING CONDITIONS: 

 Weather:  

  • Indoors: Primarily in an environmentally controlled office; requires most or all work to be done inside. 

Noise level:  

  • Quiet to moderate. 

 Physical requirements:  

  • Must be able to lift and/or move up to 25 lbs.  
  • Frequently required to sit, stand, walk, use hands/fingers to handle or feel, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, talk/hear, see, taste/smell, and carry weight/lift.
