Controlling Department Intern
About the job
We are seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Intern to join our North America Controlling team for six (6) months for 28 hours per week. This role is designed to provide hands-on experience in financial reporting, month-end close, and business analysis, while also helping the team improve efficiency by taking ownership of recurring and structured tasks.
This is an excellent opportunity for a student or recent graduate looking to gain practical experience in a fast-paced finance environment and contribute meaningfully to day-to-day operations.
Roles and responsibilities
- Core Accounting & Close Support
- Maintain and reconcile detailed records supporting the company trial balance
- Prepare and distribute recurring monthly reports in support of the month-end close process
- Assist in the preparation of monthly financial statements and reporting packages
- Support the month-end close by completing assigned tasks accurately and on time
- Reporting & Analysis Support
- Prepare standard reports and meeting materials for the controlling team (monthly reviews, business updates, etc.)
- Ensure consistency, accuracy, and completeness of financial data across reports
- Assist in tracking and analyzing key financial metrics and variances
- Project & Ad Hoc Support
- Provide support on special projects led by Financial Analysts and the Director of Controlling, including:
- Budgeting and forecasting cycles
- Margin analysis and profitability reporting
- Global reporting packages
- Assist in analyzing cost and margin trends to support business decision-making
- Process & Efficiency Support
- Take ownership of routine and repeatable finance tasks to improve overall team efficiency
- Help streamline, standardize, and document recurring reports and processes
- Proactively identify opportunities to improve data quality and reporting workflows
- Other related duties and/or projects as assigned.
Education and experience
- Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field.
Skills
- Ability to work closely with others in a collaborative team environment.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office 365 (Teams, Outlook, Excel).
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, formulas).
- Proficiency in Power BI a plus.
- Professional demeanor and ethical conduct, including handling confidential information appropriately.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines
- Strong communication skills and willingness to learn
- Interest in financial reporting, analysis, and business operations
Physical Demands
- Frequent sitting or standing (if preferred)
- Frequent use of computer with repetitive mouse use, keyboarding and visual demands.
- Must be able to work in the office for collaborative purposes.
