Junior Accountant
Mercer Management, a large family-owned business, is seeking a motivated and detail oriented Junior Accountant to join our finance & accounting team to perform the day-to-day, month-end, quarter-end, and year-end activities. This newly created role will play a key part in keeping our financial operations running smoothly—supporting daily accounting activities, maintaining accurate and organized records, and contributing to monthly close and audit cycles. They will also assist with implementing identified improvements to the accounting processes and controls.

Core Responsibilities
- General Ledger & Reconciliations: Recording daily financial transactions, reconciling bank statements and preparing journal entries. Reconcile sub-ledgers to general ledger balances, identifying and resolving discrepancies.
- Financial Reporting & Closing: Assisting senior accountants with monthly, quarterly, and year-end closing processes and generating financial reports.
- Payroll: Gathering and processing payroll expenses and preparing journal entries.
- Accounts Payable & Receivable: Resolve vendor invoices and customer invoices issues, review cost center coding for accuracy, support weekly checkruns, track payments, and manage aging reports. Assist in managing credit card expense reporting and tracking.
- Data Management: Maintaining accurate, up-to-date records in accounting software (e.g., AppFolio or similar software platforms)
- Audit on-site cash and property processes for proper controls and supporting documentation
- Support and provide documentation for external audits
- Assist in ad hoc requests, analysis, reporting, and special projects
Key Requirements & Qualifications
- Education: A Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field. Solid understanding of basic accounting principles
- Experience: 1–4 years of experience in accounting, accounting experience in the construction and/or hospitality industry a plus
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Proficiency in MS Excel and GoogleSheets (pivot tables, v-lookups) and familiarity with accounting software (e.g., AppFolio or similar software platforms)
- Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to handle confidential information
- Comfort in a fast-paced complex environment
- Comfortable working under pressure and handling unexpected challenges with a positive attitude
