About the role:

This position is located in the Department of Health & Human Services (HHS), Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), Offices of Hearings and Inquiries (OHI).

As an Attorney-Adviser, GS-0905-11/12, you will review administrative appeals for the purpose of identifying and analyzing complex legal issues pertaining to case jurisdiction issues and developing recommendations.

 

Salary:

$85,477 - $133,142 per year

What you'll do:

  • Review records of the Provider Reimbursement Review Board (PRRB) to assure that pertinent law, regulations, rulings, etc., have been properly cited and applied.
  • Develop jurisdictional legal issues and present the issues to the PRRB, making recommendations as to whether the Board should accept or reject jurisdiction over such appeals.
  • Develop draft written legal opinions of the Board incorporating case findings and conclusions for Board decision.
  • Perform a wide variety of advisory, technical, and administrative services in managing the adjudication of adversarial disputes relating to Medicare payment and reimbursement.

Qualifications:

At the GS-11: You must possess a Juris Doctorate (J.D.) or Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) from an accredited ABA law school and possess active bar status in good standing.

 

At the GS-12: You must possess a Juris Doctorate (J.D.) or Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) from an accredited ABA law school, active bar status in good standing, and one year of professional legal experience post bar admission equivalent to the GS-11 level.

 

Education Requirement:

You must possess a Juris Doctorate (J.D.) or Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) from an accredited law school.

 

Proof that bar status is active, in good standing and eligible to practice in the highest court of a State, U. S. commonwealth, U. S. territory, or the District of Columbia. Candidates must have superior legal writing and research ability; outstanding oral, analytical, and interpersonal skills and be adept at working directly with clients and staff members.

 

License: A current, valid license with eligibility to practice law in a state, the District of Columbia, or any United States territory or commonwealth is a continuing condition of employment for Federal attorneys.
