Seed Production Internship
Job Functions:
- Participate in accurate and timely crop scouting and data collection of emergence and vegetative growth stages, silk and pollen shed notes, and stand counts
- Perform activities related to planting, mapping, scouting, weed and insect management, rouging, detasseling, safety, training, and reporting at the site.
- Perform a project to study potential production improvement. Present findings to the leadership team
- Collect quality data in the field and generate inspection report to present to the production manager
- Communicate multiple times a day with management on discoveries in the field
- Participate in training for safety, quality, etc.
- Perform other duties as required to meet field operation or plant needs
Requirements:
- Possess a basic understanding of production agriculture
- Demonstrates essential abilities including communication, decision making, and business knowledge
- Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license, a satisfactory driving record, and the ability to travel independently as needed.
- Must be willing to work some weekends in planting and detasseling seasons
- Required to work in all weather conditions
- Must be able to walk fields and conduct visual inspections of crops
- Requires bending, twisting, and lifting 50lb seed bags
- Ability and willingness to participate in required training that may include education on policies and procedures and safety as it relates to the requirements of the position
- Ability and willingness to participate in a drug test and it must indicate a negative result to work for the organization
- Basic understand of equipment maintenance.
