Community Journalism Fellow

Community Journalism Fellow (2 Positions)

About the Role

ReMedia is seeking Community Journalism Fellows who are curious, thoughtful, and interested in exploring stories that impact local communities. Fellows will cover events, conduct interviews, investigate issues, and learn how narratives, assumptions, and bias can influence storytelling and public understanding.

Our approach emphasizes critical thinking, multiple perspectives, source verification, community-centered reporting, and an understanding of the historical and contemporary role of Black media in shaping public discourse, preserving community stories, and expanding representation.

Responsibilities

  • Cover community events and meetings
  • Conduct interviews with community members, leaders, and organizations
  • Research local issues and emerging stories
  • Assist with radio, podcast, and digital news content
  • Learn ethical reporting and source verification practices
  • Explore how bias, framing, repetition, and narrative influence public perception
  • Examine the role of Black media and community-based journalism in strengthening civic engagement and representation
