Teacher of Mathematics – Newark Tech
2026–2027 School Year
The Essex County Schools of Technology is seeking a qualified, student-centered Teachers of Mathematics for Newark Tech for the 2026–2027 school year. This is a 10-month tenure track position.
Position Purpose
Under the general supervision of the School Principal, the Teacher of Mathematics will develop students’ understanding and mastery of foundational and advanced mathematical concepts, including equations, formulas, calculations, and problem-solving strategies. The successful candidate will foster critical thinking, analytical reasoning, and the practical application of mathematics in real-world situations.
Qualifications
- Valid New Jersey Teaching Certificate or Certificate of Eligibility in Mathematics
- Demonstrated knowledge of mathematics content and effective instructional practices
- Ability to create and maintain a positive and engaging learning environment
- Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills
- Required criminal history background check and proof of U.S. citizenship or legal resident alien status
- Must be a resident of New Jersey or obtain residency within one year of employment unless exempt under state law
Performance Responsibilities
- Develop and implement mathematics curriculum aligned with district goals and state standards
- Create a classroom environment that supports student engagement, safety, and individualized learning
- Prepare lesson plans, instructional materials, and assessments that support sequential and meaningful learning experiences
- Teach mathematical concepts including algebra, geometry, formulas, calculations, real and imaginary numbers, and problem-solving strategies
- Promote creative thinking, analytical reasoning, and the practical application of mathematics in everyday life
- Assess student progress regularly and adjust instructional methods to meet individual student needs, including students with special needs
- Utilize district and New Jersey State assessment data to inform instruction and maximize student achievement
- Maintain accurate records of student attendance, grades, and academic progress in accordance with district policies and state regulations
- Encourage and maintain effective communication with parents and guardians regarding student progress and performance
- Establish and maintain standards of student behavior that support a productive learning environment
- Collaborate with colleagues, administrators, and support staff to enhance instructional practices and student achievement
- Participate in faculty meetings, professional development activities, committees, and other school-related responsibilities
- Select, maintain, and inventory instructional materials, textbooks, and classroom resources
- Continue professional growth through workshops, seminars, research, and other professional learning opportunities
Additional Duties
- Perform other related duties as assigned by the Principal or designated administrators
