MBA Generalist Associate

GEM Pawnbrokers | Downtown Brooklyn, NY | Full-Time, In-Office

About GEM

GEM Pawnbrokers is one of the largest and longest-standing pawn and pre-owned luxury goods retailers in the New York metropolitan area. With 28 locations and a 75+ year history, we serve hundreds of thousands of customers across the five boroughs through collateral lending, retail sales of fine jewelry, watches, and luxury goods, and a growing e-commerce presence. We are a family-run business with the scale of an enterprise and the agility of a startup.

The Opportunity

We're hiring a recent MBA graduate to join our corporate office in Downtown Brooklyn as a high-impact generalist supporting a Director across multiple business functions. This is not a traditional executive assistant role and it is not a traditional rotational program. It's a hybrid: part chief-of-staff, part special-projects lead. You'll dabble across finance, marketing, IT, and retail operations, with real ownership of projects from day one.

What You'll Do

Work will shift week to week, but expect a mix across these areas:

  • Finance & accounting: Assist with basic bookkeeping, expense categorization, vendor management, and ad-hoc financial analysis across our 28 locations.
  • Marketing & visuals: Help draft visual content — social graphics, in-store signage concepts, merchandising visuals, and supporting design assets — in coordination with internal stakeholders.
  • IT & systems: Work as the right hand to our Director. Serve as the first point of contact when issues arise across corporate and store locations, triage them, and partner with the Director to scope and implement solutions. This will regularly require in-person work at store locations across the five boroughs.
  • Retail storefront projects: Support physical store redesigns, signage refreshes, and merchandising initiatives in coordination with operations leadership.
  • Special projects: Pitch in on M&A diligence, competitive research, vendor evaluations, and whatever else lands on the Director's desk.

Who You Are

  • Recent MBA graduate (2024–2026) with 0–2 years of post-MBA professional experience
  • Strong academic record and a generalist orientation — you're as comfortable in Excel as you are sketching out a visual concept
  • Highly comfortable with ambiguity and switching context multiple times a day — this is the most important attribute for success in this role
  • Sharp project management instincts; you can hold five plates in the air without dropping any
  • Excellent written and verbal communication
  • Proficient in Excel, PowerPoint, and modern productivity tools; bonus points for familiarity with QuickBooks, Shopify, Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, or basic SQL
  • Interest in retail, lending, luxury goods, or family-business operations
  • High integrity, low ego, and a roll-up-your-sleeves attitude — no task is beneath you

Physical & Travel Requirements

  • Willing and able to travel between GEM locations across the five boroughs on a regular basis (reliable transportation a plus; subway-accessible for most locations)

Logistics

  • Full-time, in-office at our Downtown Brooklyn corporate headquarters when not traveling to store locations
  • Reports directly to a Director on the corporate team
  • Competitive compensation and benefits package commensurate with experience
