Math Teacher Job Description
Position Summary
The Math Teacher is responsible for delivering high-quality mathematics instruction that promotes academic achievement, problem-solving skills, critical thinking, and student engagement. The teacher will provide standards-based instruction aligned with Michigan State Standards while creating a positive and structured learning environment that supports student growth and success.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Develop and implement engaging lesson plans aligned with state and school curriculum standards.
- Teach mathematics concepts using a variety of instructional strategies, hands-on activities, technology, and real-world applications.
- Foster a safe, structured, and positive classroom environment conducive to learning.
- Differentiate instruction to meet the academic needs of all learners.
- Assess student progress regularly using formal and informal assessments and adjust instruction accordingly.
- Maintain accurate records of grades, attendance, and student performance data.
- Prepare students for M-STEP and NWEA (MAP) Testing.
- Utilize data-driven instruction to improve student achievement and monitor academic growth.
- Communicate effectively with parents, guardians, and school staff regarding student progress and classroom expectations.
- Implement classroom management practices that encourage student engagement, accountability, and respect.
- Participate in professional development, staff meetings, parent conferences, and school events.
- Collaborate with colleagues and administration to support school-wide academic goals and initiatives.
- Integrate problem-solving, mathematical reasoning, and critical thinking skills into instruction.
- Ensure compliance with school policies, procedures, and educational regulations.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Mathematics, or a related field.
- Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate with appropriate endorsement(s).
- Knowledge of Michigan Academic Standards for Mathematics.
- Strong classroom management and instructional skills.
- Ability to effectively engage and motivate students.
Preferred
- Previous teaching experience in a K-8 or secondary educational setting.
- Experience with intervention strategies and differentiated instruction in mathematics.
- Experience using educational technology and student performance data to drive instruction.

Physical Requirements

The work environment consists primarily of a classroom and school setting with moderate noise levels.
