Administrative Communications Intern

Position: Administrative and Communications Intern (Administrative Aide/Assistant to the Chair)

Organization: Ingham County Democratic Party

Position Type: Internship (Stipend) $1000/month - 15-20 hours/week, Now through November, 13, 2026

Location: Lansing/Michigan  (Hybrid)


 

Position Summary

The Ingham Democratic Party is seeking a creative, motivated, and tech-savvy Social Media Intern to join our communications team. This role is designed to amplify the Democratic message at the local level, promote our candidates, and encourage voter turnout. The intern will create engaging content, manage our social media platforms, and help with digital outreach initiatives. 


 

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinating the logistical support of our precinct delegate outreach event, which can require a variety of scheduling with candidates, “cutting turf” and other tasks 
  • Content Creation & Scheduling: 
    • Create and schedule daily/weekly posts (Instagram and Facebook) and texts aligned with party messaging, including event promotions, highlights of the latest news and trends, the county website, volunteer recruitment, and policy highlights.
    • Training county party volunteers on content creation to increase and amplify party messaging.
  • Multimedia Development: Create quality graphics using Canva/Adobe and produce short-form videos (Reels, TikTok) for event promotion, volunteer spotlights, and candidate amplification.
  • Analytics Tracking: Track key engagement metrics (follower growth, reach, engagement rate). 
  • Help coordinate and set up in-person county party events/meetings as necessary


 

Qualifications & Skills

  • Passion for Democratic Values: A strong commitment to electing Democrats and advancing progressive policies at the county level.
  • Social Media Proficiency: Deep familiarity with trends and best practices on Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok.
  • Content Creation Tools: Proficiency in Canva (required) and basic video editing tools (CapCut, iMovie, or  Adobe Premiere).
  • Knowledge of NGP/VAN Votebuilder is a plus
  • Communication Skills: Strong, concise writing skills with a keen eye for engaging, persuasive political messaging.
  • Self-Starter: Highly organized, proactive, and capable of working independently in a fast-paced, sometimes unpredictable environment. 


 

Preferred Experience

  • Previous experience managing social media accounts for a campaign, organization, or student group.
  • Engagement with diverse stakeholder groups to reach common goals/purposes
  • Basic knowledge/familiarity of the Ingham County/Mid Michigan community (students/young adults strongly encouraged to apply)
