College Intern - Commission on Human Relations
POSITION SUMMARY
The Pittsburgh Commission on Human Relations (CHR) investigates complaints of alleged discrimination in employment, housing, and public accommodations within the City of Pittsburgh. CHR is tasked with investigating civil rights violations and any conditions having an adverse effect on intergroup relations in the city. In addition, CHR conducts community education and other outreach programs for schools, community groups, businesses, professional organizations and City departments in order to promote equal rights and opportunities for all who work, live or visit our city.
College Interns assist the Commission on Human Relations in achieving departmental goals and objectives by working to complete assigned tasks. They will have the opportunity to learn about general operating procedures, public service and the workings of City government, as well as specific skills, which may include but are not limited to: analyzing data and developing reports, planning meetings and special events, community outreach, researching and developing policy, documenting procedures, budgeting, time management, maintaining databases, inventory control, and customer service.

- EDUCATION/TRAINING: Must be currently enrolled and taking classes in an accredited college or university undergraduate or graduate program; OR have graduated within the last twelve (12) months.

POSITION DUTIES
- Contributes to departmental goals by completing assigned tasks and projects.
- Coordinates work in conjunction with project timelines.
- May analyze statistical data, complete surveys, perform research and develop reports.
- May assist in developing marketing materials and in developing and maintaining social media campaigns.
- May work with community groups on assigned initiatives.
- May assist in developing and executing community outreach programs.
- May maintain supplies inventory by checking stock to determine inventory level; anticipates needed supplies; places and expedites orders for supplies; verifies receipt of supplies.
- May provide general administrative support to staff.
- May provide primary phone coverage (first to answer all incoming calls).
- Performs such other related tasks and duties that are assigned or required.
