Position Overview
We are seeking a creative, deadline-driven Freelance Multimedia Journalist (MMJ) to produce compelling news content across digital platforms. This role is ideal for a self-starter who can independently report, shoot, write, and edit high-quality multimedia stories for publication on our website and social media channels.
The MMJ will be responsible for covering community news, events, and public affairs while maintaining strong journalistic standards and accuracy.
Key Responsibilities
Research, pitch, and develop original story ideas
Conduct interviews with sources, officials, and community members
Shoot and edit video news packages using professional equipment or mobile journalism tools
Write clear, accurate news scripts and accompanying web copy
Produce content optimized for digital and social media platforms
Meet strict deadlines and manage multiple assignments simultaneously
Ensure all work adheres to AP style and journalistic ethics standards
Collaborate with editors and digital teams to refine and publish content
Qualifications
Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Journalism, Communications, Media Studies, or related field (students encouraged to apply)
Strong writing and storytelling skills
Experience shooting and editing video (Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut, DaVinci Resolve, or similar)
Familiarity with AP style and journalistic best practices
Ability to work independently and meet deadlines
Basic photography and social media skills preferred
Preferred Skills
Experience with mobile journalism (MoJo)
On-camera reporting experience
Knowledge of local government, public policy, or community reporting
Basic graphic or caption creation skills
Portfolio Requirement
