Haymarket Center is the largest and most comprehensive provider of treatment for substance use and mental health disorders in Chicago. As a designated Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) Look-Alike we provide comprehensive, culturally competent, high-quality primary care services. 
We serve 12,000 people annually. Most are from Chicago, but many are from every area of Illinois.

Brief Summary – Manager, Mac’s Deli at Haymarket Center 


As the Manager of Mac’s Deli, you will provide leadership and vision to help us to expand Mac’s Deli at Haymarket Center. You will help to ensure high food quality, service delivery, and profitability, and help to create a diverse, professional, and inclusive learning environment for transitional workers who are clients of Haymarket Center programs. You will interview and hire new transitional worker staff. You will help the clients enrolled in the supported employment program living with substance use disorders and mental health conditions articulate their interests, values, and skills. You will assist these clients with obtaining transferable skills and in moving into PT or FT competitive, integrated jobs in the community. You will report directly to the Manager, Supported Employment Center. 

This is a full-time restaurant management and supported employment role within an urban addictions treatment center serving those with substance use disorders and mental health conditions.  


To succeed in this role, you need

• An interest in and passion for mental health and substance use disorder (SUD) treatment and advocacy
• Education, training, and successful track record in culinary arts, hospitality, and/or business administration
• Demonstrated good judgement and full knowledge of deli products, pricing, restaurant promotion, profit and loss, and food safety regulations
• Effective community networking, verbal communication, and relationship-building skills
• Good written communication skills
• Comfort and competence with technology such as Adobe Acrobat, MS Excel, MS Teams, MS Outlook, MS Windows, etc.
• Strong time management and organizational skills
• Commitment to diversity and inclusion and ability to work within a diverse team setting
• Chicago CDPH Foodservice Sanitation Manager Certificate upon hire and prior to start of employment
• Be at least 21 years old
• Hold a valid Illinois driver's license with acceptable driving record and current car insurance

Several education and work experience paths are eligible for this role:

• Associate or bachelor’s degree in culinary arts, hospitality, or business with at least one year of successful managerial experience


• Certificate or vocational program completion in  culinary arts, hospitality management, or food service management with 2+ years of successful managerial 

Full-time Employment (40 hours per week, 8 hours per day; Will include Saturday hours) 

Job Description – Manager, Mac’s Deli

• Supervise selection, pricing, preparation and promotion of deli products and ensure deli staff meet goals for sales, margin, labor expense, safety, sanitation, and customer service


• Interview, hire, train, supervise and evaluate transitional employees in compliance with established practices and budget parameters to achieve operational goals.


• Supervise transitional job staff to ensure cleanliness of operation shelving, appliances, refrigeration equipment, prep areas, storage areas, and display areas in compliance with regulations and established practices.


• Engage Haymarket Center clients and establish trusting, collaborative relationships directed toward the goal of integrated, competitive employment in community job settings with other workers who do not necessarily have disability.


• Participate in weekly clinical consultation meetings with recovery and/or mental health treatment team and communicate individually with team members between meetings to coordinate and integrate vocational services with recovery services and mental health treatment.


• Prepare weekly “flash reports” providing a high-level operational snapshot and prepare monthly Profit & Loss (P&L) statements detailing profitability

Competencies

Leadership: Positively lead and provide clear vision and direction to Mac’s Deli team; Lead in expanding the social enterprise and implementing new products


Recruitment and hiring: Participates in the recruitment, interviewing, onboarding, and training of new transitional workers in consultation with the Manager, Supported Employment.


Employee scheduling: Design and monitor staff schedules to assure that all shifts and work-days are covered.


Transitional job staff management: Oversee implementation of HR practices including recruitment, training, retention, scheduling, processing and management of program employees.


Financial: Responsible for financial performance of the program, from budgets to billing, as well as reviewing purchases.


Creativity/Innovation: Develop new and unique ways to improve operations of program and create new opportunities.


Growth: Participates in expanding existing business and implementing new products.


Sensitivity: Ability to work as an effective supervisor and team member of transitional workers living with substance use disorders and/or mental health conditions.
