Akron Community Internship - Event Planning Intern

The role of the Event Planning Intern is to support storytelling, messaging, and donor-focused communications that advance our mission of downtown revitalization, economic development, and community engagement. This internship offers hands-on experience in nonprofit communications, content
development, and stakeholder engagement while contributing meaningfully to the vibrancy and long-term success of Barberton’s downtown. The Intern will play a key role in shaping how Main Street Barberton communicates its impact to the public, partners, donors, and sponsors.
 

Job Duties:

  • Create clear, engaging marketing materials that highlight programs, events, and downtown initiatives.
  • Draft and edit press releases for local media and community partners. Support event promotion by preparing digital content for the website, social media channels, e-newsletters, and partner platforms.
  • Assist in maintaining consistent messaging and brand identity across all communications.
  • Help capture photos, stories, and content from community events and business activities.
  • Participate in onsite tasks that strengthen overall marketing efforts, including event support, outreach, and content gathering.
  • Contribute creative ideas that advance Main Street Barberton’s mission and enhance public engagement

Qualifications

  • Strong writing, editing, and communication skills.
  • Interest in marketing, public relations, journalism, communications, or a related field.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and work collaboratively.
  • Familiarity with social media platforms and basic design tools (e.g., Canva, Adobe, or similar) is helpful.
  • A proactive mindset and willingness to contribute in a dynamic community-focused environment.
