Tax Controversy Associate

Position Overview:

We are seeking a Tax Controversy Associate with 1-3 years of experience to join our dynamic team. This role is idea for an attorney with a strong interest in tax controversy, audits, dispute resolution, who is looking to gain hands-on experience in high-stakes matters involving IRS, DOJ, and state and tax authorities.

The associate will work closely with partners on a wide range of controversy matters, including audits, administrative appeals, and litigation support.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in representing clients in IRS audits, examinations, and administrative proceedings
  • Support tax controversy matters, including voluntary disclosures, appeals, and litigation
  • Conduct legal research and draft memoranda, protest letters, and legal filings
  • Analyze federal and state tax laws, regulations, and IRS guidance
  • Prepare and review submissions to the IRS and other taxing authorities
  • Collaborate with CPAs and clients to gather analyze financial and tax-related information
  • Participate in client meetings and assist in developing defense and resolution strategies
  • Monitor changes in tax laws and contribute to internal knowledge resources
  •  

Qualifications:

  • J.D. degree from an accredited law school (LL.M. in Taxation is preferred)
  • 1-3 years of experience in tax controversy, litigation, or related tax matters
  • Admission to at least one U.S. state bar
  • Strong interest in tax controversy and dispute resolution
  • Excellent legal research, analytical, and writing skills
  • Proficiency with legal research tools (e.g., LexisNexis, Westlaw)
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments and meet deadlines
