General Duties:
Functions as a legal assistant to the program by assisting the Program Director & Director of Programs in facilitating all necessary legal services for Community Guardian clients.
Job Description:
· Serves as liaison to outside attorneys retained to conduct routine legal services, litigation proceedings, and investigative work, etc., including reviewing cases in litigation and following up with attorneys regarding case status.
· Prepares and oversees the legal calendar, including finding coverage as needed.
· Obtains various legal documents from Courts and governmental offices (i.e. certified copies, Birth Certificates, and Death Certificates).
· Coordinates, tracks and oversees the Master Case List.
· Oversees, tracks and follows up on all eviction proceedings, and communicates with marshals as appropriate.
· Submits Article 81 and Landlord-Tenant case referrals to attorneys.
· Assists attorneys with in-person court appearances as appropriate.
· Participate in staff meetings.
· Assists the Case Managers with filing Missing Person’s Reports.
· Other tasks as requested by the Director of Programs, Program Director, Supervising Attorney and Staff Attorney to support the functioning of the program.
Serves as back up for the following tasks:
· Files various legal documents with the Courts (i.e., Orders To Show Cause, Commissions, Designations, Bonds, Annual Accounts, Initial Reports, Mental Health Warrants).
· Coordinates, tracks and oversees the extensions of Court Orders, including making referrals to attorneys.
· Assist with data entry, preparation of reports and statistics, and completing other administrative tasks as assigned by the Program Director, Supervising Attorney and Staff Attorney.
· Assist with legal reporting, filing, communication with Court Examiners as appropriate
· Submit legal case referrals for Compliance Hearings.
