Accounting Intern

Accounting Intern Job Summary with Village of Wauconda

The Village of Wauconda is looking for a motivated and enthusiastic Accounting Intern to join our staff for the summer of 2026.  In this role, you will gain on-the-job experience by assisting our team with account reconciliations, escrow deposit balance resolution, payroll-related reporting for employee overtime and other projects.  Working three days per week on average, you will be required to perform common accounting functions like creating journal entries in addition to completing administrative tasks, such as data entry and filing.  This role is open to students currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in accounting.  No experience is necessary, but you must be proficient with basic computer programs and willing to learn.

 

Accounting Intern Duties & Responsibilities

  • Update reconciliation of Escrow Deposit Balance Account.
  • Analyze old transactions and recommend resolutions for the same (e.g., invoice resident, process refund, write-off balance).
  • Aid Finance Director in creating process documents for tracking escrows through new project management component of software.
  • Enter initial reconciled data in project management system.
  • Analyze overtime compensation banks for transactions eligible for payroll reporting under the One Big Beautiful bill.
  • File or digitize documents.
  • Work on other projects as assigned.

Accounting Intern Requirements & Qualifications

  • Active enrollment in a post-secondary program for achievement of bachelor’s degree in accounting.
  • Successful completion of second-year, intermediate courses in accounting.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word & Excel.
  • Interpersonal skills, including written and verbal communication.
  • The ability to be discreet when handling sensitive financial information.
  • Detail-Oriented with strong analytical skills.
  • Self-starter who displays strong initiative.
