Assistant Director of Community Corrections

Assistant Director of Community Corrections                                                  

Hiring Range: $93,870-$119,704 annually

Full-Time, Exempt – *Benefit & Pension       

 

 

Under the general guidance of the Community Corrections Director, the Assistant Community Corrections Director is responsible to manage corrections activities; supervising community corrections staff; planning and implementing various corrections programs; and initiating, developing, interpreting, and revising policies and procedures. This position is also responsible for developing outcome measures for corrections staff, developing cost effective use of placement resources, regulating workloads, providing on-call services, participating in staff development, and assuming responsibility for the Community Corrections Director in his/her absence. This position serves as an assistant to the Director in the management and administration of all policies for Steele County Community Corrections. This includes assisting in the development of policy/procedure, performance management and quality assurance techniques for the department. Further, this position is responsible to develop and monitor the Comprehensive Plan, communicate with the Steele County Commissioners, Steele County District Court Judges, Community Corrections Advisory Board, county departments, the Minnesota Department of Corrections, and other local, state, and national elected officials, agencies and groups. The position requires a high level of confidentiality, skillful communications, project management, initiative, and people skills.  This position will work autonomously in many instances. Duties include, but not limited to:

  • Direct supervision of department staff to provide direction and problem solve
  • Oversee personnel matters which include recommendations for hiring, new hire training, staff evaluations, discipline, and resolution of staff disputes. 
  • Recommend administrative policies, objectives, and long range plans for the department.
  • Consults daily with officers regarding assessment, treatment, and placement concerning clients. 
  • Schedule and attend regular meetings with Judges and criminal justice stakeholders to maintain service delivery, keep them informed, seek advice and problem solve.
  • Represent Steele County by being involved in state and local correctional committees. 
  • Carry a Probation Officer caseload as necessary. 

 

Successful candidates will have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in corrections, criminal justice, sociology, public administration or closely related field.
  • Five years of progressively responsible experience in corrections or closely related human services or criminal justice field; at least two years of experience in a supervisory or leadership capacity.
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Ability to pass a background check

 

 

* Steele County will contribute to HSA/VEBA $1,700 for single or $3,500 for family (if you elect to pay for our Medical insurance that is provided by Medica); other benefits that are available include dental, vision, life insurance, long term disability insurance, deferred compensation plan, pension plan, employee assistance program, paid time off, etc. 

Cost of living adjustment and pay increases per union contract.
