Field Service Technician

Position Overview

The Field Service Technician is a hands-on, customer-facing role responsible for deploying and supporting VivaScope/Caliber ID confocal microscopy systems in clinical environments. You will lead system installations, train clinicians on imaging workflows, and provide ongoing technical and clinical support to ensure successful adoption.

Caliber ID develops advanced in-vivo and ex-vivo confocal microscopy systems used in dermatology clinics and hospitals to capture high‑resolution diagnostic images.

This role blends clinical expertise, technical problem-solving, and field support—ideal for someone who enjoys working directly with healthcare professionals and cutting-edge medical technology. As a growing organization, we value adaptability, initiative, and a willingness to take ownership.

What You’ll Do

System Installation

  • Install and configure confocal imaging systems at customer sites (dermatology clinics and hospitals)
  • Ensure systems are fully operational, calibrated, and compliant with documentation requirements
  • Coordinate installation timelines with internal teams and customer stakeholders
  • Validate system performance post-installation

Clinical Training & Workflow Support

  • Train physicians, clinicians, and staff on system operation and imaging workflows
  • Provide hands-on instruction to ensure high-quality diagnostic image capture
  • Support clinicians during initial use to drive confidence and adoption
  • Deliver follow-up training and workflow optimization

Technical Support & Field Collaboration

  • Provide remote and on-site technical support
  • Troubleshoot hardware and software issues in clinical settings
  • Perform basic repairs, component replacements, and preventive maintenance
  • Partner with service and engineering teams to resolve complex issues

Customer Engagement

  • Build trusted relationships with clinicians and site staff
  • Gather and communicate user feedback to improve products and workflows
  • Serve as a key point of contact during onboarding and early adoption

Internal Collaboration & Events

  • Partner with sales teams on installations and customer onboarding
  • Support product demonstrations at conferences, trade shows, and events
  • Contribute to training materials and clinical documentation

What You Bring

Required

  • Associate’s degree in Biomedical Sciences, Medical Imaging, or related field (or equivalent experience)
  • Experience working directly with clinicians, patients, or research teams
  • Strong communication, training, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to troubleshoot technical systems in real-world clinical settings

Preferred

  • Bachelor’s degree in biomedical sciences, medical imaging, or related field
  • 2–5 years of experience in clinical, healthcare, or medical device environments
  • Experience with confocal microscopy, dermatology imaging, or similar medical imaging technologies
  • Background in clinical training or product support
  • Experience in dermatology clinics or hospital environments

Travel Requirements

  • Approximately 20–30% domestic travel (2-3 one day trips per month)
  • Occasional international travel may be required
  • Valid driver’s license and passport required

Work Environment and Physical Requirements

  • Clinical environments including hospitals and dermatology practices
  • Occasional exposure to biological materials (e.g., human or animal tissue samples)
  • Ability to lift and move equipment up to 75 lbs
  • Regular use of computers and technical equipment
