Job Summary
The General Assignment Reporter will produce content for print, digital, and social media platforms and may contribute to podcasts and special projects. The role requires strong multimedia journalism skills and the ability to collaborate with the editorial team under the guidance of the Managing Editor. The position is based in North Idaho, offering access to the region’s outdoor recreation and nearby destinations such as Sandpoint and Glacier National Park.
Position Duties & Responsibilities
Report on city government activities in the greater Bonners Ferry and Boundary County area, including writing stories and capturing photos and video
Cover education and school-related news within the Boundary County School District
Produce original byline content for print, online, and social media platforms
Capture and edit multimedia content, including photography and video
Participate in podcast production and storytelling initiatives
Collaborate with editors and network news teams on story development and packaging
Contribute to special editorial projects and cross-team initiatives
Adhere to company content strategy and digital newsroom standards
Utilize layout and publishing tools such as InDesign and InCopy
Qualifications
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Excellent listening skills and attention to detail
Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple assignments and deadlines
Self-motivated with initiative and the ability to work independently
Team-oriented mindset with a collaborative approach
Working knowledge of Associated Press (AP) style preferred
Familiarity with newsroom operations and deadlines is a plus
Experience with Adobe InDesign, InCopy, or similar publishing tools
Preferred Attributes

Interest in community-based reporting and local government coverage
Ability to adapt content for multiple platforms, including social media
Creative storytelling skills and willingness to experiment with new formats
Enthusiasm for living in a small community with access to outdoor recreation
Prior experience contributing to podcasts or audio storytelling
