Polysomnographer

Northern Light A.R. Gould Hospital

Department: Sleep Lab

Position is located: Presque Isle, ME

Work Type: Full Time / 36 Hours per week

Work Schedule: 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM

Requirements: Registered Polysomnograher

Summary: The Polysomnographer is responsible for the diagnosis and treatment of illnesses associated within the practice of sleep medicine. S/he is required to perform multiple types of sleep testing as ordered by the sleep providers. S/he will also be required to work with the mask fitting clinic, ensuring patients that they receive the proper fit and usage of their sleep equipment. Polysomnographers must be well trained in usage of the testing equipment and report any problems to the Clinical Coordinator, Lead Technician, or the Medical Director of the Sleep Disorders center. Documentation in clinical notes and during the testing procedure is mandatory to ensure that the best results are obtained during the reading and scoring of these tests.

Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrates knowledge and skill in providing appropriate treatment and testing of sleep disorders to the age of the patient.
  • Maintains an open working relationship with the sponsoring provider.
  • Maintains necessary documentation in the patient’s medical record and within the guidelines established by the Organization.
  • Works closely with other office employees and hospital personnel in a team effort to serve our patients.
  • Maintains patient confidentially.
  • Maintains current practices established by the Joint Commission.
  • Maintains best practice skills designed to improve patient care and outcome.
  • Participates in the efficient operation of the practice. S/he is available and prepared to work during scheduled work hours to facilitate and meet approved staffing level.
  • Demonstrates willingness to cooperate with other health care providers.
  • Autonomously assists other health care providers with patient care
  • Adheres to administrative policies, directives, and procedures.
  • Must be proficient in the use of computers. Understanding and usage of the electronic medical record is a necessary skill for daily patient care.
