Metagenomics Research Intern
Hot springs are extreme environments characterized by high temperatures and unique geochemical conditions that support diverse thermophilic and hyperthermophilic microorganisms. Traditional culture-based methods have limited ability to reveal this diversity, as most microbes remain unculturable. The research intern will complete metagenomic analysis, involving direct sequencing of environmental DNA, which overcomes these limitations by enabling comprehensive profiling of microbial communities, their taxonomic composition, and functional potential.
Based on the candidates experience and knowledge the following tasks could include:
- Performing DNA extraction
- Metabolic analysis
- Downloading the genomes and checking the quality
