The Center for Preparedness and Response (CPR) within the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) is a critical center dedicated to safeguarding the health and well-being of Californians during public health emergencies. CPR coordinates statewide preparedness, response, recovery, and mitigation efforts for events such as natural disasters, disease outbreaks, bioterrorism, and other emergencies impacting public health.

The Resource Management Unit Chief (Supervisor I) serves as a key leader in overseeing procurement, contracting, inventory, and space-planning functions that support the Center for Preparedness and Response’s operational readiness. This position is responsible for supervising multidisciplinary staff, directing the development and tracking of emergency and routine procurements, and ensuring full compliance with State and departmental policies. Core responsibilities include managing contract documentation and timelines, overseeing purchasing and invoice processing, maintaining procurement and inventory databases, and ensuring accurate management of equipment, assets, and facility resources. The incumbent provides technical guidance to staff, coordinates cross-unit activities, prepares and reviews reports and work products, and supports special projects and emergency response operations. Additional duties include facilitating unit meetings, identifying process improvements, updating management on project and procurement status, and participating in drills, trainings, and workgroups to maintain program effectiveness and readiness.

  • Experience supervising and developing staff in an operational or administrative setting.

  • Experience managing inventory, equipment assets, or space-planning activities.
  • Ability to lead workgroups and coordinate cross-unit projects.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and project-management skills.
  • Experience supporting emergency preparedness, drills, or response operations.
