Laboratory Technician

BASIC PURPOSE AND FUNCTION:

To set up, execute and document microbiological and chemical testing of water samples as well as performing various customer services tasks such as answering phone calls and questions and receiving samples from customers that come into the laboratory.  This is a technical, hands-on position that requires some physical labor to lift heavy sample coolers, perform tests and stock laboratory supplies. 

 ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Set-up and perform tests on water samples correctly and in a timely manner
• Communicate with clients regarding sampling requirements and test results
• Perform calibration of assigned laboratory equipment
• Keep laboratory clean, organized and supplies stocked
• Clean lab glassware and equipment
• Prepare sampling containers for clients
• Prepare reagents and standards for laboratory tests

Qualifications

• Capable of understanding verbal instructions and written procedures
• Capable of working alone and managing your responsibilities and performing jobs in a timely manner 
• Excellent customer service skills
• Strong communication skills 
• Good computer skills using Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel
