Graphic Design Intern
Position: Graphic Design Intern (Part-time)
Reports to: Director of Development and Marketing
Position Overview: Creative and detail-oriented Graphic Design Intern working up to 15 hours per week. The intern will assist in creating compelling visual content for various marketing materials, ensuring brand consistency across all platforms while supporting Habitat for Humanity's mission through impactful design work.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
- Design Content Creation - creates and edits graphics for social media platforms, websites, email campaigns, event materials, and informational materials for donors, volunteers, and family partners.
- Brand Support - designs and updates marketing collateral while ensuring all designs adhere to Habitat for Humanity brand guidelines and maintain visual consistency across all materials.
- Collaboration - works closely with marketing and development teams to provide creative input, incorporate feedback, and support cross-departmental design needs.
- Project Management - assists with design projects from concept to completion, manages deadlines, maintains organized project files, and tracks design assets.
- Content Support - sources appropriate stock images, assists with photo editing from build sites and events, and contributes to overall marketing and design concepts.
- Portfolio Development - gains hands-on experience in nonprofit design work while creating new pieces for professional portfolio development.
- Administrative Tasks - maintains digital asset library, organizes design files, and assists with printing coordination and vendor communications.
Learning Objectives:
- Nonprofit Design Experience - learn the unique aspects of designing for nonprofit organizations, including how to create emotionally compelling visuals that drive donor engagement and volunteer participation.
- Mission-Driven Storytelling - develop skills in visual storytelling that effectively communicates Habitat's impact on families and communities through design.
- Multi-Platform Design - gain practical experience creating cohesive design campaigns across print, digital, and social media platforms while working within nonprofit budget constraints.
Qualifications:
- Education - currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a relevant degree program (e.g., Graphic Design, Visual Arts, Communications, Digital Media, Fine Arts)
- Experience - previous coursework or experience in graphic design, with a portfolio demonstrating design capabilities.
Skills:
- Strong proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign).
- Solid understanding of design principles including layouts, typography, color theory, and composition.
- Creative mindset with ability to generate innovative design solutions.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organizational and time management abilities.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- Knowledge of web design principles and social media best practices is a plus.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to attend events and conduct site visits for photography and design inspiration, which may involve walking, standing, and carrying light equipment.
