Job Description
As our Lead Researcher in Mass Spectrometry, you'll be more than an instrument operator. You'll be the driving force behind some of our most complex analytical challenges, a trusted advisor to customers and colleagues alike, and a mentor who elevates the entire team around you.
What You'll Do
Own the Science
- Serve as our resident mass spectrometry expert, leading method development, troubleshooting, and advanced analytical studies
- Apply cutting-edge MS techniques to solve complex, real-world scientific challenges
- Provide expert-level technical guidance to internal teams and external customers
- Stay ahead of emerging technologies and continuously push the boundaries of what our laboratory can do
Lead & Inspire
- Train and mentor laboratory staff on mass spectrometry instrumentation and techniques
- Provide technical and operational oversight for the MS laboratory area
- Author and revise Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to ensure best-in-class performance
- Initiate and lead high-impact laboratory projects from concept to completion
Drive Continuous Improvement
- Identify and implement process improvements and significant cost-saving initiatives
- Manage multiple projects and deadlines with precision and accountability
- Ensure full compliance with Quality Management System (QMS) and Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) requirements
Stay Hands-On
- Perform advanced, research-level analytical techniques and scientific studies
- Calibrate, maintain, and optimize mass spectrometry instrumentation
- Execute routine and complex laboratory testing per established SOPs
- Manage inventory for required operating materials.
Qualifications
What You Bring
Required
- Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, or a related scientific field
- 5+ years of hands-on analytical laboratory experience, with significant focus on mass spectrometry
- Deep theoretical and practical expertise in MS techniques and instrumentation
- Proven track record in method development, process improvement, and project leadership
- Strong ability to troubleshoot complex instrumentation and analytical challenges
- Excellent written, verbal, and presentation communication skills
- Proficiency in Google Workspace and Microsoft Office Suite
- Ability to thrive in a high-volume, deadline-driven laboratory environment.
Preferred
- Master's degree in Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, or a related scientific field
- 15+ years of hands-on analytical laboratory experience, with significant focus on mass spectrometry
- Expert skills in complementary techniques such as spectroscopy, spectrophotometry, microscopy, electrochemistry, chromatography, extractions, or metallography
- Deep knowledge of industrial water and/or process systems and associated treatment solutions
- Experience with LabWare or a similar LIMS
- Experience in an ISO 9001 (or equivalent) certified organization
- Strong public speaking skills.
