South Orange Performing Arts Center, repeatedly recognized as one of New Jersey’s favorite performing arts centers, seeks a Marketing intern to join a dynamic team dedicated to presenting richly diverse transformational arts experiences in the creatively vibrant South Orange-Maplewood regional community in Northern New Jersey. As a member of SOPAC’s Marketing Team, this role will report to the Marketing Manager and be responsible for assisting in SOPAC’s marketing activities

ABOUT SOPAC
The South Orange Performing Arts Center (SOPAC) is an award-winning regional arts center that presents innovative artistic and educational cultural experiences through music, theater, dance, comedy, and family performances in an intimate and welcoming Environment.
SOPAC’s mission is to offer audiences exhilarating and diverse arts entertainment in its intimate venue, serving as the cultural heartbeat of the greater South Orange / Maplewood region and contributing to the economic and social vibrancy of its highly diverse Community.
The SOPAC campus includes The Jennifer & Tony Leitner Performance Hall, a 439-seat mainstage theatre with superb acoustics, sight lines and seating. Audiences often remark that performances in this space feel like having their favorite artists right in their own living room. Artists acknowledge that the atmosphere encourages conversations with audiences. The Loft at SOPAC is a 2,170 square-foot multi-purpose space used for performances, rehearsals, classes, and special events. SOPAC’s Herb + Milly Iris Gallery is home to multiple exhibitions a year. Additionally, SOPAC co-produces local events such as South Orange Summer Nights and serves students and schools through several education Programs.

RESPONSIBILITIES
• Social content
- Event Content: Record event content (behind the scenes, performers on stage, audience, SOPAC table). Send content to the Marketing Manager for review before posting.
- SOPAC & Community Content: Capture content around SOPAC campus (inside & outside building) and SOMA. Send it to the Marketing Manager for review before posting.
- Content Calendar: Participate in ideating and populating the content calendar with post content ideas.
- Prompts: SOPAC will share direction / ideas on what to capture based on content calendar strategy.
- Idea Generation: Intern encouraged to bring forward concepts and participate in brainstorms to identify content areas.
- Create & Edit: Develop social content using sourced material, original material, editing.
- Social Audit & Ideas: Look at SOPAC and competitors' social content (i.e. other local performing arts centers) to provide an outline of content types and an assessment of strengths and weaknesses.
- Analysis: Review performance data to support the assessment.
- Ideas: Suggest new content post ideas (either one off pieces of content or recurring series structure) based on observations.
• Community & Press: Prepare materials about upcoming SOPAC events and manage updates to community partners & press outlets
• Design: Support the design and creation of marketing materials such as flyers, posters, digital ads, and email newsletters.
• Website: Help maintain and update the website with upcoming events and news.
• Data: Assist with data collection and analysis to evaluate the effectiveness of
marketing strategies (i.e. QR code usage, Emma email data)
• Other Marketing Related Tasks (i.e. maintain Facebook events & events published across relevant sites)
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a degree program in Marketing, Communications, Arts Administration, or a related field.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Deep understanding and knowledge of social media platforms, trends, user behavior.
• Keen visual eye for video and photo capture.
• Proficient use of video recording and photography devices for optimal asset capture on cell phone and/or digital camera
• Creativity in content ideas and storytelling.
• Strategic understanding of how social media content fits into the larger brand strategy.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite; familiarity with design software (Adobe Photoshop, Canva, etc.) is a plus.
• Proficient in website management; familiarity with Wordpress or other website hosting services
• A creative mindset with an eye for design and detail.
• Organized, self-motivated, and able to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.

• A strong innovative and creative vision with a genuine interest in trying new methods and approaches.
• Flexibility and agility, with the ability to effectively prioritize.
• A passion for the performing and fine arts.
Work Schedule: 20 hours per week, with 1 in office day.
Compensation:
- Potential for course credit in conjunction with your university.
- Potential for $500 per semester stipend
