Legal Intern

Job Summary:

OpenGov is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Legal Intern to join our Legal Team. Reporting to the Associate General Counsel, Commercial and Employment, you will support a wide range of legal and operational initiatives, with a primary focus on commercial contracting and legal process improvement.

This is a hands-on opportunity to gain in-house experience at a fast-paced SaaS company serving the public sector. You will work closely with attorneys and cross-functional partners to support OpenGov’s mission to power more effective and accountable government. 


 

Responsibilities:

Customer Contracting

  • Assist with drafting, reviewing, and organizing SaaS agreements, NDAs, and vendor contracts.
  • Support contract intake, tracking, and data entry in systems such as Salesforce and DocuSign.
  • Help build the AI contract repository. 

Vendor, Partner, and Other Commercial Agreements

  • Assist with reviewing vendor, partner, and other third-party contracts, with a focus on balancing risk and business efficiency.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to ensure contract terms align with internal policies and operational needs.

Process Improvement

  • Contribute to ongoing improvements to legal workflows, templates, and playbooks to support scalable, efficient legal operations.
  • Maintain and help organize contract records, approvals, and deal documentation.
     

 

Requirements and Preferred Experience:

  • Currently pursuing a Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an ABA-accredited law school.
  • Excellent judgment, strong attention to detail, and a collaborative, problem-solving mindset.
  • High ethical standards, sound judgment, and professionalism.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with a willingness to learn and grow.
  • Coursework or prior experience in contract drafting, negotiation, or commercial law.
  • Interest in technology, SaaS, or government/public sector work.
  • Proficiency with tools such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Google Workspace, Slack, Salesforce, and DocuSign preferred.
  • Passion for OpenGov’s mission and values.


 

Additional Information: 

  • This is an in-office role running from June through August. Candidates must be able to work onsite at least four days per week.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship now and in the future.

 

Compensation:

  • The hourly rate for this role is $20 per hour.
  • This internship is not eligible for employee benefits.
