Legal Intern – Legal Department

Since 1905, Elliott-Lewis and its family of companies have a reputation of being a premier provider of Mechanical Services, Facilities Management, and Crane Rentals. Our in-house legal team is seeking a summer intern to help with a variety of tasks in supporting our business operations. 

 

Job Summary

The Legal Intern will support our organization’s General Counsel during a summer internship designed for law students. This position provides exposure to a broad range of in‑house legal matters typical for an organization: litigation management, claims process, and employment matters. The intern will work closely with counsel and various department heads, gaining practical experience in how legal issues are managed within a business environment.  This internship will help the selected student grow skills on topics such as researching, legal writing, and analytical skills. This summer internship will begin at the conclusion of the ’26 spring semester, and the student selected will have a work schedule of three days per week at 8 hours per day. This is a paid internship.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist the General Counsel with day‑to‑day legal matters affecting the corporation.
  • Conduct legal research related to general liability claims, workers’ compensation claims, automobile insurance claims, and employment law matters.
  • Draft and review legal summaries, correspondence, and reports.
  • Help organize, review, and maintain case files, claim files, and legal documentation.
  • Track deadlines, assist with discovery materials, and coordinating with counsel and other representatives.
  • Analyze claim information and records to assist legal department in assessing risk and exposure.
  • Shadow meetings with attorneys, claims professionals, and other business stakeholders, as appropriate.
  • Perform other related legal and administrative tasks as assigned to support the legal department’s operations.

 

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled at an accredited law school
  • Strong research, writing, and analytical skills
  • Attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks in a professional environment
  • Interest in corporate law, insurance, claims management, or employment law
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, PowerPoint, and Forms)
  • Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with discretion

 

 

Physical Requirements

  • Regularly requires a high degree of mental effort, talk and hear, gross and fine manipulation, read both print and screens for extended periods of time.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. 
  • Frequently required to walk and sit 
  • Occasionally required to reach with hands and arms, lift 25 lbs. max, stand and stoop, kneel, or crouch, and climb stairs 
  • Expected to work in a moderately loud level of volume environment.
