Summer 360 Intern
The Summer 360 Intern will collaborate with summer program staff to assist in the academic and social growth of our UpSpring Summer 360° campers, children ages 5-12. The intern has a 3-fold position. 1) Interns will serve as Bus Monitors and work collaboratively with the Bus Driver and the Camp Director to keep bus attendance, monitor routing logistics, and manage student behavior on the bus to and from camp. 2) Interns will support Junior Counselors (ages 13-15) by facilitating NaviGo-based leadership and college/career readiness lessons 3-4 days and coaching Junior Counselors on how to apply these skills in their roles. 3) Interns will serve as general supports to classroom staff who will be delivering educational and enrichment programming to students. Interns will be expected to interact and build rapport with children with the intent of making a difference in the life of a child experiencing homelessness and may be asked to work with a specific age group from time to time.
Responsibilities:
- Facilitate NaviGo-based lessons for Junior Counselors focused on leadership, professionalism, and college/career readiness skill-building.
- Teach and model professional skills (communication, teamwork, time management, appropriate boundaries, and positive youth leadership).
- Collaborate with the Camp Director and program staff to align NaviGo instruction with weekly camp themes, staff expectations, and Junior Counselor responsibilities.
- Provide leadership and guidance in building students' inter-personal skills.
- Coach Junior Counselors on how to apply NaviGo skills in real time while supporting campers (e.g., teamwork, communication, appropriate boundaries, positive behavior support).
- Serve as a leader/role model for students.
- Assist with enrichment activities i.e., swimming, library, nature programs, art lessons.
- Build a positive working relationship with staff and demonstrate the ability to problem solve.
- Work closely with all the members of the program's leadership team and the bus driver (s).
- Have working knowledge of the bus route and associated pick-up/drop-off routines.
- Monitor the attendance and behavior of the campers while entering, riding and exiting the bus.
- Develop a positive working relationship with bus driver and understand bus protocol.
- Collaborate with bus driver to know their expectations for a safe ride.
- Communicate with Camp Director/Administrative Support Specialist in any updates, problems, or changes related to transportation in a timely manner.
Qualifications: Interns should have prior experience working in an academic, educational, or camp-type setting, ideally with children who live in poverty, and must be able to interact and build rapport with children while being timely and self-motivated. Interns should also be comfortable facilitating structured lessons and leading small groups (especially with teens/young leaders), be able to coach, redirect, and motivate Junior Counselors in a supportive, professional manner, and be able to demonstrate strong communication skills with the ability to model leadership and appropriate boundaries.
Additional Requirements: Able to lift 30 pounds. Use of personal cell phones for staff communication.
Work Hours: 40 hours per week, Mon-Fri 7:30 AM-5:00 PM (with 1.5 hours of breaks, daily); (28 total workdays)
Working Days: June 4th-5th, 2026 (orientation); June 8th-July 17th, 2026 (Holidays: June 19th, July 3rd, 2026); Summer 360 Interns are expected to be present every day during camp.
This internship is paid with a stipend of $3,850 total, to be paid by check in 3 installments (every 2 weeks of camp).
