POSITION OBJECTIVES:
The Coordinator of Instruction provides leadership and oversight for best practice in instruction, programming, implementation, and monitoring while leading teachers and teams through assessment alignment and development. This role collaborates with educators, administrators, and support staff to ensure data-driven instruction and interventions are effectively implemented and provides coaching to teachers in order to support instructional practice.
The work of the Coordinator of Instruction is to support classroom teachers in supporting student learning. The Coordinator will focus on individual and group professional learning to expand and refine teachers' understanding of research-based, effective instruction. In order to meet this purpose, the Coordinator will provide personalized, 1:1 support based on the goals and identified needs of individual teachers and will lead grade-level and subject-area-focused Professional Learning Communities and Data Teams.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
May include the following, and other duties may be assigned.
- Serving as a member of the district's Strategic Plan Teaching and Learning team to continue to lead the transformation of best practices in curriculum, instruction, and assessment.
- Leadership and oversight in instructional best practice and curricular mapping, as well as assessment development.
- Facilitate the intellectual and professional development of teachers with a focus on improving student achievement through universal instruction.
- Coordinate the implementation and evaluation of curricular programming.
- Provide professional development, training, coaching, and support to teachers and school-level teams.
- Monitor fidelity of implementation and evaluate outcomes.
- Collaborate with the MTSS coordinator and other professionals to align curriculum and ensure instruction is based on best instructional practices.
KNOWLEDGE/ SKILLS:
- Create positive relationships with teachers and administrators.
- Communicate and demonstrate research-based instructional practices that result in increased student performance.
- React to change productively and handle other tasks as assigned.
- Provide individualized, classroom-based coaching to teachers to support their implementation of effective, personalized/proficiency-based instructional practices.
- Knowledge of Act 139- Read Vermont as well as the Agency of Education Expectations.
- Provide organized, individual, and/or group learning opportunities for teachers as needed.
- Provide teachers with resources related to curricular programs and practices
- Model effective instruction with students when requested/assigned.
- Encourage ongoing professional growth for all teachers.
- Manage time and schedule flexibility to maximize teacher schedules and learning.
- Perform duties as assigned by the Assistant Superintendent in conjunction with the Building Principals.
QUALIFICATIONS:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily, in addition to the following:
- Holds or is eligible to hold a valid Level II Vermont Professional Educator’s License. Preferred in the area of Elementary Education, Curriculum Coordinator, or related field.
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field. Master’s degree preferred.
- Minimum of five years of successful teaching experience.
- Demonstrated knowledge of Vermont content standards, Act 139, and AOE Expectations.
- Previous coaching, teacher leadership, or administrative experience
- Ability to travel between district sites

- Instructional strategies
- Science of Reading instructional strategies
- Effective communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills for building an environment with a common instructional focus, promoting initiatives, and conveying expectations
- Ability to design and deliver quality professional development for administrators and teachers
- Outstanding presentation and facilitation skills
- Demonstrated ability to communicate in a professional manner both orally and in writing
- Demonstrated strength in organization, communication skills, and efficiency in meeting deadlines
- Demonstrated ability to function as a positive, collaborative member of a team
- Demonstrated interest and engagement in professional learning and reflection
