Through Urban Scholars and Higher Pathways, students build the academic foundation and leadership skills needed to thrive and drive change in their communities.
✨ Position Overview
We are seeking a Communications Intern who is ready to execute, not observe.
This role is ideal for someone with hands-on experience in social media, Canva design, and photography who can contribute immediately to our digital presence and storytelling.
You will help bring our programs to life through content creation, visual storytelling, and consistent online engagement.
🛠️ What You’ll Do
📱 Social Media Management
- Create and publish content across Instagram, Facebook, and LinkedIn
- Write engaging captions aligned with organizational voice and priorities
- Tag partners, apply hashtags strategically, and ensure proper formatting
- Maintain a consistent posting schedule using a content calendar
- Monitor engagement and identify high-performing content
🎨 Visual Content Creation
- Design social media graphics, flyers, and digital assets using Canva
- Maintain brand consistency across all materials
- Adapt templates or create original designs
📸 Photography & Content Capture (In-Office Day)
- Capture high-quality photos during programs, events, and daily activities
- Identify moments that reflect student engagement and program impact
- Select and edit photos for use across platforms
- Maintain an organized library of visual assets
📰 Newsletter & Communications Support
- Assist in drafting and formatting newsletters and email communications
- Compile program updates, highlights, and announcements
- Proofread content for clarity, tone, and accuracy
📅 Content Coordination
- Support development and maintenance of a content calendar
- Organize photos, graphics, and drafts
- Ensure timely completion of communications tasks
✅ What You Bring
Required
✔ Demonstrated experience posting to and managing social media platforms (Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn)
✔ Proficiency in the following software (must be able to use independently):
- Microsoft Office
- Google Docs, Sheets, and Calendar
- Asana
- Canva
✔ Experience with photography (smartphone or camera) and basic photo editing
✔ Strong writing skills with the ability to produce clear, concise content
✔ Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and meet deadlines
Preferred
➕ Experience supporting newsletters or email communications
➕ Basic understanding of social media performance metrics
➕ Interest in education, youth development, or social justice
🕒 Schedule & Work Structure
- 15 hours per week
- 1 required in-office day for content capture and collaboration
- Remaining hours completed remotely
- Flexible scheduling within agreed-upon deadlines
