Position Overview
SCN is seeking a PR & Journalism Assistant Intern to support media outreach, storytelling, and content development across our platforms.
This role is ideal for students pursuing degrees in Journalism, Public Relations, Communications, Media Studies, or English who are passionate about storytelling, media relations, and amplifying voices within the business community.
Key Responsibilities
Media & Public Relations Support
- Assist with drafting press releases, media advisories, and public announcements
- Support outreach to local media outlets, podcasts, and digital publications
- Help maintain and update media contact lists
- Track media placements and coverage
Journalism & Content Development
- Research and write business spotlight articles featuring entrepreneurs and SCN members
- Conduct interviews (written or recorded) with business owners and community leaders
- Assist in developing blog content, newsletters, and website features
- Support scripting for YouTube and podcast content
Brand Storytelling & Digital Media
- Help shape SCN’s narrative across social and digital platforms
- Assist in capturing event highlights, quotes, and key moments for storytelling
- Contribute to content calendars and editorial planning
- Support LinkedIn and professional platform content creation
Research & Trend Analysis
- Identify trending topics in business, entrepreneurship, and community development
- Research media opportunities and speaking placements
- Assist in developing case studies and feature stories

Ideal Candidate
- Currently pursuing a degree in Journalism, PR, Communications, Media, or related field
- Strong writing, editing, and storytelling skills
- Comfortable conducting interviews and engaging with professionals
- Detail-oriented with strong research abilities
- Interest in entrepreneurship, media, and community impact
- Ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple assignments
Bonus Skills (Not Required)
- Experience writing for blogs, school publications, or media outlets
- Familiarity with AP Style or journalistic writing standards
- Basic knowledge of social media analytics or content strategy
- Audio/video editing or podcast production experience
