Who We Are
Liberty Grove Schools is a growing, community-centered public charter school located in Indianapolis, Indiana. Founded with a commitment to academic excellence and whole-child development, we serve a diverse population of students and families who are deeply invested in education and community impact.
As an established school with strong systems and a clear vision, Liberty Grove continues to expand thoughtfully. We are excited to be growing into a full middle school model, with the addition of 7th grade in the upcoming school year. This growth reflects both the success of our program and the trust families place in our school.

About the Role
The role of the Assistant Principal is to assist the Principal of Liberty Grove Schools in developing and implementing policies, programs, curriculum, and activities that promote educational development and the professional development of each staff member while ensuring that Liberty Grove lives up to its mission and vision, with a focus on Socio Emotional Learning (SEL). This role is a hybrid between an Instructional Coach (supporting teachers) and Dean (supporting students with SEL and disciplinary situations).
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
- Drive Liberty Grove Schools' vision and mission centered on removing labels and redefining student success to ensure a community of academic excellence that sparks innovation and creates opportunity.
- Lead, manage, and develop a high-functioning team of educators who are focused on driving superior academic performance, with a focus on instructional coaching to support Socio Emotional Learning (SEL).
- Evaluate school and grade level performance data to identify, develop and modify instruction to ensure effective instructional strategies.
- A belief in the effectiveness of practice and collaboration as a means to guiding staff.
- Ability to implement goal setting, provide meaningful feedback and engage in targeted observation practices that lead to teacher and staff improvement.
- Supporting some students with SEL and disciplinary situations.
- Engage families and community members in school all school activities to foster a community approach to learning and development.
- Maintain compliance with state and federal regulations for academic and operational standards/requirements.
- Ability to recruit and retain a quality teaching and non-teaching staff.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Self-aware with a strong commitment to continuous learning.
- Master’s Degree or Doctorate in Education Administration or related field.
- 2 or more years of school leadership with demonstrated exemplary results in an urban charter school setting.
- 3-5 years of successful classroom experience with demonstrated exemplary results, within an inner-city charter school setting.
- Proven leadership capabilities that enable a welcoming teaching and learning environment.
- Demonstrated success managing staff through planning, motivating, rewarding, and providing targeted feedback and professional development.
- Demonstrated experience supporting both instructional excellence and student social-emotional development; able to operate effectively in a hybrid role that blends coaching educators and managing student behavior.
- A passion for educational excellence, data-driven instruction, and a personal commitment to accountability for results.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced and rapidly changing environment.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Knowledge of and experience with implementing effective instructional and behavioral methods for educating inner-city youth.
