Working Supervisor (Operations / Yard / Warehouse)
Job Summary
The Working Supervisor is responsible for overseeing daily operations while actively participating in hands-on work alongside staff. This role is not purely managerial—the supervisor is expected to lead by example, assist with physical tasks, and ensure workflows are executed efficiently, safely, and correctly.
Key Responsibilities
Hands-On Operations
- Actively work alongside employees in daily operations (loading/unloading, sorting, processing materials, etc.)
- Step in wherever needed to keep operations running smoothly, especially during high-volume or short-staffed periods
- Assist with equipment operation, basic troubleshooting, and workflow execution
- Ensure work is completed accurately, efficiently, and on schedule
Team Leadership
- Direct and coordinate daily tasks for workers on the floor
- Train new employees through hands-on demonstration and real-time guidance
- Monitor employee performance and provide immediate feedback and correction when needed
- Lead by example in productivity, attitude, and work ethic
Operational Oversight
- Ensure all daily processes follow company procedures and safety standards
- Identify inefficiencies and help improve workflows in real time
- Maintain organization of the work area, tools, and materials
- Coordinate with management regarding production needs, staffing, and issues
Safety & Compliance
- Enforce safety protocols at all times
- Actively monitor the work environment to prevent accidents
- Ensure proper use of equipment and protective gear
- Report incidents and operational issues promptly
Qualifications
- Prior experience in warehouse, yard, recycling, manufacturing, or similar hands-on environment
- Previous leadership or supervisory experience preferred, but must be comfortable leading while working
- Strong work ethic—must be willing to perform physical labor daily
- Ability to lift, move, and handle materials as required by the job
- Good communication skills and ability to manage a team on the floor
- Basic problem-solving and decision-making skills
Work Environment
- Fast-paced, physically demanding environment
- Requires standing, walking, lifting, and working outdoors or in industrial settings
- Exposure to varying weather conditions (if applicable)
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience in warehouse operations, logistics, or recycling industry
- Previous supervisory or management experience
- Experience handling cash transactions
- Familiarity with inventory control and operational workflows

Compensation & Benefits
- Competitive salary: $50,000 – $67,000 annually
- 5 days of paid vacation (PTO) annually
- Paid sick leave in accordance with New York City law
