Summer Accounting Intern

The Merrimac Municipal Light Department (MMLD) is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Summer Accounting Intern to support our Business Manager. This is a hands-on opportunity to gain valuable experience in public sector accounting, utility operations, and regulatory compliance while contributing to essential community services.

🔎 What You’ll Do

As our Summer Accounting Intern, you will:

  • Assist with daily and monthly journal entries and support account and bank reconciliations during month-end close.
  • Learn to classify and record transactions in accordance with FERC accounting standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Process vendor invoices and assist with accounts payable and accounts receivable activities.
  • Support the monthly utility billing cycle, including report review and billing adjustments.
  • Maintain organized financial documentation for audit and regulatory reporting purposes

This role offers meaningful exposure to governmental accounting practices and utility finance operations in a collaborative municipal environment.

🎓 What We’re Looking For

  • Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance
  • Strong attention to detail and analytical skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word
  • Ability to handle confidential financial and customer information with professionalism and discretion
