Program Commitment: Summer Interns are expected to commit to an eight (8) week term of service.
QUALIFICATION GUIDELINES:
The Summer Internship Program is open to candidates who meet the following criteria:
Must be currently enrolled at an accredited academic institution with at least two years of completed study (junior or senior standing), equivalent to 60 semester units or 90 quarter units OR must have graduated within the last six (6) months with an associate or bachelor’s degree.
Experience working with the public, whether through paid, unpaid, or volunteer work, is preferred but not required.
GPA Requirement: Must possess a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0.
License and/or Certificates: Some assignments may require the possession of a valid California driver’s license if driving a city vehicle is necessary for the performance of assigned duties.

In addition to the above requirements, the most successful candidate will possess the following:
Skills & Knowledge
- Familiarity with basic office administration tasks (record keeping, filing, clerical procedures).
- Proficient with standard office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Google Suite).
- Able to conduct research and prepare reports using online tools and databases.
- Knowledge of professional communication standards (email etiquette, documentation, correspondence).

2026 Summer Program - Department Projects
Application Process:
Interested candidates must submit an online application, supplemental questionnaire, and unofficial transcripts through www.TorranceCA.Gov/Jobs. Applications without all required attachments will not be reviewed. If you have questions regarding the application process, call the Civil Service Division at 310.618.2967.
Application period opens: Monday, April 6, 2026
Application period closes: Monday, April 20, 2026 at noon
First review of applications will be those received by April 13, 2026 at 11:59 p.m. If a sufficient number of qualified applications are received by the first review date, there is the possibility that the recruitment may close at that time.
Interview Process:
Panel Interview - Weighted 100%
- Tentatively scheduled for Tuesday, May 5, 2026 and Wednesday, May 6, 2026.
Only candidates who best meet the City and department’s needs will be invited to participate.
The selection process includes an initial interview to assess overall qualifications and fit for the program. A final interview may be conducted depending on department interest. For departments that choose to hold a final interview, it is typically scheduled within one week of the initial interview and will involve department staff who may serve as the intern’s mentor to determine final placement.
