Communications Program Assistant

Position Overview

The Textile Society of America (TSA) seeks a Communications & Program Assistant to support outreach, communications, and program coordination for its upcoming Textiles Close Up initiative. This is a project-based role designed for someone interested in gaining hands-on experience in nonprofit arts programming, communications, and audience engagement.

Working closely with the Executive Director and Communications Committee, the Assistant will help ensure clear, consistent, and engaging communication across TSA platforms while supporting the successful promotion and delivery of the program.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with copy editing, formatting, and design needs for program materials
  • Ensure consistency in voice, branding, and accessibility
  • Contribute to post-program communications, including summaries or promotional follow-ups
  • Managing social media and drafting e-blasts
  • Supporting outreach and audience engagement
  • Developing media lists and distributing press releases
  • Researching relevant guilds, organizations, and groups and conducting outreach to expand program visibility
  • Securing live captioning services for webinar/virtual program components
  • Researching and identifying a short-term Disability Access Consultant to support program accessibility

Qualifications

  • Strong writing and organizational skills
  • Familiarity with social media and basic design tools
  • Comfort with outreach and basic research tasks
  • Interest in arts, culture, or nonprofit work

Desired Skills & Qualifications

  • Strong writing, editing, and communication skills
  • Familiarity with social media platforms and content scheduling tools
  • Basic design skills (Canva, Adobe, or similar) are a plus
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage deadlines independently
  • Interest in arts, culture, textiles, or nonprofit work
