Job Title:             Lab Assistant (Biotech Manufacturing)

Job Summary:

The Lab Assistant is responsible for assisting Manufacturing Technologists and Technicians in VMRD product manufacturing.  The Lab Assistant’s role will include the following:

  • Follows all policies, protocols, and SOPs
  • Packages and labels products
  • Prepares lab reagents
  • Performs autoclaving and dishwashing
  • Adheres to aseptic technique
  • Runs assays – IFA, AGID, ELISA, RID
  • Reads subjectively interpreted assays (RID)
  • Performs protein purification - Salt precipitation, ion exchange chromatography. 
  • Performs protein evaluation - BCA quantitation, spectrophotometric analysis
  • Performs protein conjugation -  FITC
  • Performs compounding—making buffers, sterile filtration, making dilutions, making pools, making aliquots
  • Calibrates, operates, and maintains equipment
  • Initiates document changes and develops new documentation
  • Maintains up-to-date records of work performed
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Education, Licenses and Certifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • BS candidate in microbiology, biology or related field preferred 

Physical Requirements for the Job: 

  • Must be able to move 50lbs
  • Must be able to stand in a stationary position 50% of the time

Pay Range Data:

  • The starting rate for this position is $18.00 per hour.  We are open to reviewing additional candidates with more or less experience and the pay range may differ if filled at a different level.  Our pay ranges are determined by job responsibility and regional benchmarks. The wage listed is just one component of VMRD's total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include bonuses.
