Youth Sports Concussion Reporting Intern

  • On Site Location: 250 Washington Street, Boston MA      

Note: This position is not funded by the Public Health Infrastructure Grant, hours are subject to change and will be discussed during interview process  
 
Position Overview:  

The Injury Prevention and Control Program at the Massachusetts Department of Public Health (MDPH) oversees the implementation of the state’s youth sports concussion regulations and related public health initiatives. The Youth Sports Concussion Reporting Improvement Project focuses on understanding and enhancing how schools comply with annual concussion reporting requirements. The intern will support this effort by assisting with the collection, organization, and analysis of annual reports submitted by schools through REDCap. Working closely with program staff, the intern will also participate in outreach to schools to identify barriers and opportunities for improving the reporting process. The intern may assist with additional injury prevention projects as time and interest dictate. 

 

Responsibilities: 

  • Assist with tracking and organizing REDCap survey submissions from eligible schools. 
  • Compile and clean data for internal analysis and reporting. 
  • Conduct outreach to schools to clarify reporting requirements or troubleshoot submission issues. 
  • Contribute to the development of resources or guidance for schools to improve compliance. 
  • Support improvements in the existing data collection system through documentation and feedback. 
  • Participate in team meetings and contribute to broader injury prevention program activities as appropriate. 

 

Skills & Qualifications: 

  • Strong organizational and communication skills. 
  • Attention to detail, especially in data entry and quality control. 
  • Familiarity with data systems or software such as Excel, REDCap, or similar tools. 
  • Interest in public health policy, data management, or injury prevention. 
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a professional setting.
