Summer Intern: Youth Empowerment & Case Management

Employment Type: Part-Time / Summer Internship

Minimum Experience: Entry-level

Role Overview

Louisiana Empowerment is seeking passionate, driven students currently pursuing degrees in Social Work, Education, Psychology, or Human Services for our Summer Internship program. This role is designed for those who want hands-on experience working with underprivileged youth in a community-based summer camp setting.

As an intern, you won't just be "helping out"—you will be on the front lines of social impact, providing academic support, life skills coaching, and essential Psychosocial Rehabilitation (PSR) services.

Key Responsibilities

Academic Tutoring: Provide one-on-one and small group instruction to bridge the "summer slide" gap for kids in underserved communities.

Life Skills Building: Facilitate workshops on emotional intelligence, conflict resolution, and personal organization.

Psychosocial Rehabilitation (PSR): Assist in implementing behavioral interventions and social-emotional learning activities to help youth develop healthy coping mechanisms.

Case Management Support: Shadow experienced professionals to learn the intake process, documentation, and how to connect families with vital community resources.

Camp Leadership: Assist in the daily operations of community-based summer camps, ensuring a safe, inclusive, and high-energy environment.

Qualifications

Current enrollment in an accredited Bachelor’s or Master’s program (Social Work, Education, Sociology, or related field).

A genuine heart for advocacy and working with underprivileged populations.

Strong communication skills and the ability to adapt to a fast-paced community environment.

Reliable transportation for on-site camp visits in the Houston area.

Why Intern With Us?

Real-World Experience: Gain clinical and educational hours that look great on a resume or grad school application.

Mentorship: Work directly under the Hiring Lead, Monique Armstead, and our field staff to learn the "ins and outs" of human services.

Community Impact: Make a tangible difference in the lives of Houston youth this summer.
