Legal Intern

The Summer Intern program provides law students with the opportunity to participate in meaningful projects that contribute to the overall objectives of the legal department and the business units the department supports.  In addition to the assigned projects, Interns are given the opportunity to participate in activities that encourage networking with peers, managers, and employees. 

 

Job Summary:

Provide support to corporate headquarters legal team, which may include assignments such as assisting in drafting SEC and other filings, M&A support, corporate legal research, privacy matters, employment law support, legal operations projects, and other projects as determined by supervisor (all with the goal of giving the legal intern practical experience with in-house corporate legal work).

Responsibilities

 

  • Research and writing on relevant legal topics as requested to support legal department priorities.
  • Assist in drafting and reviewing legal documents.
  • Support the legal team in various projects and initiatives, including compliance efforts and risk management activities.
  • Support contract review, legal operations projects (e.g., law firm billing processes) and meeting preparations for General Counsel.
  • Assist in preparation of pre-read materials for Board of Directors meetings in July
  • Assist in subsidiary governance and maintenance (filings, approvals).
  • Meet regularly with supervising attorney and report on projects; participate in occasional legal team meetings.

Qualifications

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

 

  • At least one year of accredited law school completed with evidence of strong performance in classes and engagement in law school curriculum.
  • Demonstrated interest in business law (e.g., corporate and securities law, intellectual property, business contracts, employment law, privacy, employee benefits, corporate litigation, etc.).
  • Comfort using MS Word, PowerPoint and other standard office software applications. Experience with web-based research tools and databases. Comfort with MS Excel preferred.
  • Well-organized with attention to detail and ability to carry out tasks independently and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent project management, organizational and follow-through skills. 
  • Strong oral and written communication and interpersonal skills, with ability to communicate with diverse populations.
  • Professional demeanor.

 

 

Work Environment:

  • Professional office setting; requires compliance with company policies and professional workplace standards.
  • Report to work in San Ramon, CA office (full time).
  • This is a paid internship.
  • Virtual and in-person meeting participation, computer-based research and writing, and other office and administrative work required.

 

Experience:

•     Prior work experience in a professional setting is a plus

•     Law school journal or clinic experience is a plus

•     Law firm or in-house legal department work experience is a plus

 

Education:

  • Four-year university degree completed
  • Current law school student pursing J.D. or LLM at an accredited law school

 

For U.S. locations that require disclosure of compensation, the starting base pay for this role is between ($23.50 and $34.25 per hour) and may include cost of living adjustments. The actual base pay includes many factors and is subject to change and modification in the future. This position may also be eligible for other types of compensation and benefits.​
