Become part of a research team at the Ocean State Research Institute, affiliated with Alpert Medical School of Brown University, in Providence, RI!   The laboratory investigates mechanisms underlying vascular dysfunction and cardiac dysfunction seen in pulmonary vascular diseases. The laboratory utilizes state-of-the-art molecular and cell biological, biochemical, and physiological approaches as well as preclinical animal models to address clinically relevant questions associated with pulmonary hypertension.  

Responsibilities: The research assistant will participate in studies investigating mechanisms in the pathogenesis of right ventricular dysfunction in settings of pulmonary hypertension using in vitro cell culture, animal models, and human tissues. The responsibilities include, but are not limited to, in vitro tissue culture; cell isolation & purification, and cell characterization from tissue and/or organs; performing and gathering images of immunohistochemical or immunofluorescent slides; and performing experiments in molecular, biochemical, and cell biology. Maintain up-to-date inventory of study supplies and place orders. Support research activities including making reagents and stocks, processing samples for storage and laboratory analysis. Other duties as assigned.

Candidates should have the following qualifications: 

Bachelor’s degree (relevant field of study is preferred)

1-2 years post-graduate work experience preferred but not required

Familiarity with basic laboratory instruments and equipment – in a laboratory setting

Strong organizational and communication skills (communicate clearly and effectively via verbal and written instruction)

Attention to detail and ability to concentrate on multiple tasks

Ability to work independently and with others in the lab - to interact respectfully with other employees, professional staff and/or external contacts.
