Position Summary:
The COPE (Challenging Outdoor Personal Experience) staff is responsible for the leadership, safety, and overall success of the COPE program at Camp Old Indian. This role requires a dynamic individual with strong leadership skills, a commitment to youth development, and a passion for outdoor adventure. The COPE Director ensures that all program elements meet Scouting America’s standards and that participants have a safe, engaging, and enriching experience.
Essential Qualifications:
- Must possess the physical ability to lead and participate in climbing and high-adventure activities.
- Must be a registered member of Scouting America or willing to become registered.
- Must adhere to all policies outlined in the Camp Staff Manual.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Ensure full compliance with Scouting America NCAP COPE Standards and all applicable safety regulations.
- Lead and instruct youth participants in team-building initiatives, low and high COPE course facilitation, and Open COPE programming.
- Oversee the setup and takedown of the COPE program area.
- Maintain accurate inventory and logs of all COPE equipment.
- Participate in all scheduled camp activities and staff responsibilities.
- Manage administrative tasks and complete required paperwork in a timely manner.
- Ensure the security and proper maintenance of the COPE program area and equipment, including daily checklists and prompt reporting of any needed repairs.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Camp or Program Director.
